massage is very disgusting... the rooms are... not really rooms... it just has a mattress and countless people lie on it, without them changing their bedsheets...

the quality of the massage is quite lousy as compared to the ones i experienced in singapore...

i think it may be race-related, somehow you just can't derive quality from polynesians... it seems to be in their nature to be sloppy. ( compared singapore water polo to singapore soccer... ) ( the amount of money if transferred to water polo instead of soccer, i strongly believe, singapore water polo would be of Asian Games Gold medal standards... )

there's a sad short stretch of pasar malam there...

if u dare, u can go out after 10pm.

i don't...

maybe just a short trip to get away from work, that's fine.

pay peanuts... get monkeys...

All these "horrible, disgusting" LITTLE setbacks u encounter is so trifle when cheonging in a 3rd world poor country n Balai is considered very minor in these activities compared to say Batam.

If u talk about cheap seafood, JB Malaysia is as cheap as Balai n u don't hv to take a 2 hr ferry. Hotel also abt $30 n u have City Sq for shopping.
And the whoring activities there has pretty girls priced much lower than Spore.

And u still wants to spend $56 n 4hrs to n fro ferry trip to such a terrible place described by u?

I see it in a different way.
He says he is going back to chill out a night or 2 because he made friend w an old man on the ferry.
If he don't like Balai, he won't be going back as many options available.
If going back, definitely not because he has a new friend.

I think he just had bad experience over there, so badmouth everything there.
But still hopeful on his next trip for a good one.

Pay n travel 2 hrs ferry , No whoring?? I go Thailand also for praying Buddha only.

Yes yes you should do that !
This wolf once spent 3 months doing tonsure as a novice monk. It was a very enlightening and enriching period of my life and I feel every guy should go through the "monk" phase at least once in their life.

i would not do it as
I feel its not very nice to become a temporary monk just for the sake of experience as its a spiritual believe thing. just IMHO

Then you may considering going on a 4 days retreat in the mountains, as I had done in 2009. Quite an experience. Honestly, I feel the same as you when I started on it, I did not like what I saw within the organising committee.

But the meditational session did some enlightenment for. So I will be back, but with a better, clearer mind, more positive approach for it.

Going into a short spell of monkhood would be interesting, but I need to be more prepared......

IMHO
It will come to nought if these thoughts does not turn into action.
I believe if 1 has a kind heart n don't do harm to others it's quite enough.

I go Balai for the Ayam nia.

In my opinion, the seafood in Balai sucks man. I prefer Sg's version anytime.

Lucky I am not your friend, such contraint of budget, might as well stay in Geylang.
