Re: BEST FOOD DISCUSSION - Palatable, Savory, Delicious Food Found In ASEAN
Weather jin hot hor..
MEI HEONG YUEN DESSERT AT TEMPLE STREET Address Mei Heong Yuen Dessert 63-67 Temple Street, Singapore 058611 Phone (65) 6221 1156 Opening hours Tue to Sun 12:00 - 21:30 Mei Heong Yuen is one of the few shaved ice dessert shops you will ever find on the island, earning a spot on many tourists’ list of go-to places. Just a short stroll to the Chinatown MRT, locals go to this shophouse frequently to find comfort from the hot days. HIGHLIGHTS Wide collection of unique snow ice desserts: There are approximately 20 flavour options. Imagine! Sheets of shaved ice are piled up over one another to create a mini-tower that can be shared between two persons. You may think it sounds like your usual Ice Kachang but you’ll be surprised to realise that the flavouring of your choice has already been mixed into the ice sheets itself. It is also worth mentioning that the consistency is comparable to ice cream for its creamy taste. Apparently, this is how Mei Heong Yuen differs from the other Chinese dessert shops in Singapore. For a bowl of traditional Cantonese paste dessert: Looks rather plain as there are no other mixes put into the dessert but unarguably healthy and can satisfy the older generation, nonetheless. Peanut paste is a crowd favourite, while Walnut, Sesame, and Almond pastes can give customers something to think about. These traditional paste desserts are made of healthy ingredients, served in soup consistency, and the portions are good for one person. Cakes and dumplings are worth exploring: If you like to challenge the status quo, dare to try the Cantonese dumplings with an icing dip. It’s an odd concept but it might be a great game-changer for you. Other interesting selections include Chee Cheong Fun, Mango Rolls, Pumpkin Cakes, Carrot Cakes, and Glutinous Chicken Rice. Menu The menu is decent size but offers interesting snow ice flavours. There are four different categories to wander your eyes at, including special desserts, snow ice, traditional pastes, and cakes & dumplings. Recommended Dishes – Mango Snow Ice – Chendol Snow Ice – Durian Snow Ice – Peanut Paste – Mango Roll – Durian Mochi – Glutinous Rice Balls in Ginger Soup – 3-Colour Cakes – Glutinous Rice with Chicken Average Price/Pax: S$6 |

Jiak lunch buey? Sic 1 of my fav, Chicken cutlet curry mee n Yong tau foo.
Cantonese Delights @ Hong Lim : Laksa Yong Tau Foo and More There are many popular stalls at Hong Lim Food Centre such as Outram Road Char Kway Teow or Heng Kee Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee but I think Cantonese Delights is the one with the consistently longest queue. This place has been on my to-try list for very long but I was always deterred by the long queues. Still, I was determined to visit again and this time, I was lucky to catch it open even though it was a 30-min long wait during weekday peak lunch hour. The speed of the queue was moving like a tortoise, just like Heng Kee Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee. But the main reason was because many customers were placing takeaway orders and thus the actual queue was far longer than the number of persons standing in line. The Laksa Yong Tau Foo ($5) and Chicken Cutlet Curry Mee ($4/$5) did not disappoint our tastebuds at all. The laksa gravy was rich and fragrant, simmering with fresh ingredients such as ladyfingers, fish cakes, red pepper, etc. Do ask for more deep fried tofu skin fritters as they were crispy at the top while soggy and chewy at the base that was submerged in delicious gravy. For the Chicken Cutlet Curry Mee, I opted for my favourite Bee Hoon, also because it soaked up the mouthwatering Hainanese curry very well. I can't explain why but it seems that the dish quadrupled in deliciousness when a sinful food is paired with another sinful food. Freshly fried by the Uncle in batches rather than everything prepared beforehand and left out in the cold, the chicken cutlet retained a crunchy amour over the juicy flesh. A must try besides the Laksa Yong Tau Hoo. Cantonese Delights #02-03, 531A Upper Cross St, Singapore 051531 10am-3pm daily except alt. Mondays and PH |

Kampong Rojak
Stall 9 East Coast Lagoon Food Village, 1220 East Coast Parkway, 468960 My colleagues and I were in the East for lunch and a colleague highly recommended this Chinese Rojak at East Coast Lagoon Hawker Centre. As it was nearby, I swung by East Coast Lagoon to check it out. It was past 2pm and the car park was deserted. Good for drivers. There were few customers at the hawker cemtre as it was past lunch time.We ordered a pack to go, to share with the colleagues in office.Back in office, we opened and shared the pack. The portion was decent for $5. The rojak had cut 'you tiao' (fried dough sticks), sliced cucumbers, turnip and pineapple. There were chopped peanuts, ginger flower in the rojak sauce. The sauce were all mixed in. On hindsight, it would be good to ask for the sauce to be seperate from the ingredients, so that the ingredients remain fresh. My colleague had also ordered an extra century egg (which came with preseved ginger slices). Overall, a decent rojak, and you can always order a rojak to go with other favorites such as laksa, satay and fried oyster omelette when dining at East Coast Lagoon Hawker Centre.
