Neymar is Wenger's dream purchase
December 6, 2011

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed his top transfer target would be Neymar.

Neymar, 19, recently signed a new contract with Santos despite being strongly linked with a move 2 Real Madrid in January.

The Brazilian international is unlikely 2 become a transfer target 4 Arsenal, though, as he is valued @ around £40 million.

Wenger was quoted as saying in The Sun: "If I had the $ 2day, I'd put it on Neymar. You can't say tat Neymar is Pele as he had won the World Cup by the age of 17.

"He has the potential 2 be 1 of the future great strikers but @ the moment there's a big difference betw the Brazilian league & a European league."

Santos legend Pele believes Neymar could go on 2 be an even better player: "He has the ability 2 be better than me. Neymar & Lionel Messi r technically good - but Neymar is more complete.

"He shoots with both feet & dribbles fr both sides. Messi has more experience."

Nasri 'I had to leave Arsenal to play in the Europa League'

talksports website =P

Quote:
Samir Nasri has hit back at critics of his mega-money move to Man City by blasting Arsenal for failing to provide the Europa League football he craved.

Nasri - who was criticised by Arsenal fans and labelled a mercenary when he left for Man City in the summer - feels vindicated following the 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich that helped Man City finish ten points above Villarreal to qualify for the Europa League's last 32.

"I can't wait to hear the Europa League anthem as we line up on the pitch on a Thursday night," said the winger. "The hairs will be standing up on the back of my neck as I hear that tune. How does it go again?"

Nasri was part of an Arsenal side that visited Barcelona in the Champions League last season, but admits it was difficult watching new club City visit the likes of FC Politehnica Timisoara.

"If I ever wanted to play Europa League football I had to leave Arsenal," claimed Nasri. "It's been over a decade since Arsene Wenger last guided his team into Europe's second-tier competition and Arsenal again failed to land a Europa League spot last year. To make matters worse, we had to watch Spurs grab the last place. Even Fulham got in via the flippin' fair play league - at that point I knew it was time to say au revoir.

"There were moments this season when I wondered if I had done the right thing moving to City, when it looked as if we were in danger of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League and Arsenal were on course for the Europa, but now I can look forward to possibly playing Stoke."

Nasri is chomping at the bit to face the Europa League's finest. "There are no easy names in the Europa League," he said. "Whether it's FC Metalist Kharkiv, FC Vaslui or Vorskla Poltava, I can't pronounce any of them. At least I might get a game, though."

DISCLAIMER: This story is less credible than qualifying for one tournament by being knocked out of another.

Emotional Henry pays tribute
December 9, 2011

Thierry Henry paid an emotional tribute 2 Arsenal & his former team-mates aft seeing himself immortalised in a bronze statue outside Emirates Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Henry - who left 4 Barcelona in June 2007, where he would go on 2 lift the Champions League b4 moving 2 the Major Soccer League in the US with New York Red Bulls - felt he had been left "speechless'' by the whole tribute.

"At the very beginning, when I heard abt it, I honestly thought it was a joke, until I realised it wasn't,'' said Henry, who netted 226 goals as the Gunners won 2 Premier League titles & the FA Cup twice.

"I was fortunate 2 hv won alot of stuff in my career, but tat tops it all.''

Henry, though, added: "Without your team u r nothing. It would not hv been possible without them so I 1 2 thank them 2.''

The French World Cup winner has been training with Arsenal following the end of the MLS season, & admits watching games as a fan can be difficult.

"I m in pain when Arsenal lose, I can't take it well,'' said Henry. I didn't like it when I was a player & it's worse now - @ least when you're a player u can do something abt it.''

Henry added: "It was hard @ the beginning of the season, but now I think they r on the right track & they hv 2 keep on going.''

Iconic Arsenal trio set for statue honour
December 7, 2011

Arsenal will mark their 125th anniversary by unveiling statues of club legends Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams & Thierry Henry outside Emirates Stadium tis Friday.

The Gunners announced their intention 2 reveal the monuments earlier tis week but initially kept the identity of the iconic trio - who hv all left an indelible mark on the club since it was 1st formed in 1886 - under wraps.

However, is has become clear tat the illustrious triumvirate will be Chapman, Adams & Henry.

Former manager Chapman, who died suddenly in 1934, delivered 2 league titles & an FA Cup during his time @ Arsenal - creating a telling legacy tat saw the team tat he had built go on 2 win a further 2 successive 1st Division titles, a feat not repeated until Liverpool managed it half a century later.

Adams was the last man 2 dedicate his entire playing career 2 the Gunners, spending 19 years @ the club & captaining them for 14 of those; he won 13 major honours, including a pair of Premier League & FA Cup doubles in 1997-98 & 2000-01.

Henry is Arsenal's all-time leading scorer with 226 goals in 370 games during his 8-year spell in North London, which began in 1999 when Arsene Wenger snapped him up fr Juventus. 1 of the stars of the Premier League era, he also captained the club & scooped a pair of Premier League titles & 3 FA Cups 2 go alongside his numerous individual accolades.

Wenger, Henry laud Van Persie abilities
December 10, 2011

Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie is "on the way" 2 entering the pantheon of Gunners greats, while club legend Thierry Henry said he is "in admiration" of the Dutchman's recent form.

Van Persie, 28, has been in sensational goalscoring form tis calendar year having plundered 38 goals in all competitions 4 Arsenal in 2011.

And aft watching the club unveil a statue of Henry, alongside monuments of Tony Adams & Herbert Chapman as part of the Gunners' 125th anniversary celebrations, Wenger tipped Van Persie 2 follow in his former 4ward's footsteps by etching his name in2 the Emirates Stadium history books.

"Robin is on the way,'' Wenger said. "It was the club's choice [with the statues] & I had the privilege 2 manage 2 of the players who were unveiled - hopefully there will be some more.''

Henry, who is Arsenal's all-time leading scorer, echoed Wenger's sentiments - hailing Van Persie's form & labelling his development since his arrival @ the club "amazing".

"I saw him come in here & @ the very beginning he wasn't the easiest guy 2 deal with, like I wasn't I guess, but it's amazing 2 see how he has improved," Henry said. "Tat tells u how intelligent a player he is.

"I m just in admiration. Wat he is doing right now, thank God he is playing 4 us & doing well. It is nice 2 see a player improve, & Robin is doing something amazing.

"Tat also tells u how important it is 4 him 2 not get injured. He has never had a chance 2 hv a full season since he has been here - he was always out for 2 or 3 months.

"4 the very 1st time he can go on a roll now & u can see the difference. I can only admire wat he's doing now.''

Van Persie: It's all about goals now
December 18, 2011

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has revelead tis season's amazing scoring streak is down 2 new & ruthless approach in front of goal.

Van Persie has scored 15 times in 15 Premier League games 2 breath life in2 the Gunners campaign following a stuttering start & victory over ManC on Sunday will leave the London club just 6 points behind the leaders.

Dutch international Van Persie claims tat while @ 1 time he would hv been happy 2 lay on assist 4 1 of his tema-mates, he has now embraced a greedy streak tat is serving him, & Arsenal, very well.

"You can tell by the goals I score tat some of them come thru pure willpower," said Van Persie. "You can tell by my face tat the ball has 2 go in. I don't give a damn how.

"A few years ago I used 2 weigh up the options, think whether there was a chip, or a back-heel 4 a beautiful finish or whether some1 else was free in front of goal. Now I'm more ruthless, though I can still enjoy a good assist."

Re: Arsenal FC @ Emirates All Gunner fans fall in

In recent matches, we may have lost to Man City and draw with Wolves, but the fighting spirit of the team is there for all to see. They fight real hard to the last seconds, so we can be pleasantly pleased though the end results is not there for these 2 matches.

Finishing 3rd or 4th remains realistic, though I am really pissed to see Spurs so far ahead of us now.

Anyway, the new boys have really settled in now. The good runs have coincided with the return of Vermaelen in defence. Since his return, the defence has look so much stronger. Even when he play left back now, he still looks good in overlapping run. And can see he really really hate to lose. Always attacking till the last seconds when we need the goal. Together with Van Persie, these 2 are our most important players now.

Our performance from the time when we lost the league cup final last season to the drubbing by Man U was so lousy that I almost wanted to give up my MioTv subscription. I think the Man U match has changed Wenger's philosophy a bit. I just hope he start signing players who are in their prime now, rather than just potential.

Kaka available at 22 million pounds! Overpriced, pass his best, injury proned and he won't come, but if Wenger can pull off this signing, it will be a positive message. Kaka is a fantastic talent, and this type of player can play at the highest level way into their thirties, barring injuries of course. Giggs will be a good example.

Bro, I would be surprised if stingy wenger will fork out that money to buy kaka. In all reality, he will buy 18 year old left/right back and at the end of January give statement that Gibbs and Sagna will be available soon and it is like a new signing. etc etc.

At Arsenal we need atleast 4 more players, 1 attacking midfielder, 1 defensive midfielder, 1 winger and a left/right back. Because our african players song, gervinho, chamakh will be unavailable for over a month and may return injured (touch wood). Probably best option for wenger is to loan 2 players and buy 2 players.

Wah bro, you are beginning to sounds like Wenger. Then I came across this article in soccernet:

Arsene Wenger has dismissed reports linking Arsenal with a loan move for Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff.

French playmaker Gourcuff has been heavily linked with Arsenal in recent months and Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has previously claimed the Premier League club attempted to sign the 27-year-old in the summer.

However, Wenger insists he is not looking to strengthen his team midfield. Asked about a possible loan deal, the Arsenal boss said: "No. In midfield I have Wilshere and Diaby, who will be back, and that would mean a lot of players."

Note the sentence in bold, very typical Wenger comment and reply. Haiz, looks like a boring January then. I was just about the add that Pato is not happy at Milan, but now can forget about all these talkings.

Henry loan "will certainly happen"
December 30, 2011

Thierry Henry's return 2 Arsenal on a short-term loan has all but been confirmed by Arsene Wenger.

Speaking ahead of the Gunners' New Year's Eve home match with QPR, Wenger said the deal "will certainly happen". The New York Red Bulls player is waiting on paperwork 2 be completed 2 return 2 the club where he remains record goalscorer. He is expected 2 be available until the beginning of March.

"He knows the club, he can help the players & I know 1 thing: it can only be positive," Wenger told a press conference. The Frenchman said of his compatriot tat he was 2 weeks short of being match fit.

"He's 34, but still has class, quality & a football brain," continued Wenger who has been seeking 2 protect Robin Van Persie fr the injury "red zone" he has fallen into 2 often during his Gunners career.
