Celebrations kick off in November at Victoria Concert Hall, where the party was inaugurated 60 years ago.
SINGAPORE: The People’s Action Party (PAP) celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, and has branded the occasion PAP60, it said in a statement released on Friday (July 11). The celebration will be themed "Forward Together. A Brighter Tomorrow".
The Victoria Concert Hall, where the party was inaugurated 60 years ago, has been chosen as the venue for a commemorative event in November. A book on 60 defining moments in PAP history will be launched then, and there will also be a roving exhibition highlighting the party's key moments.
The celebrations will end with a PAP60 anniversary dinner and mass rally at the end of the year, with more 6,000 party members expected to take part.
"Turning 60 is a major milestone for us. We have come this far because of the commitment and dedication of our people. So this is a time for us to recognise the hard work and contributions of all our activists,” said Mr Lawrence Wong, Chairman of the Organising Committee.
Giving back and serving the community will be one of the central themes of PAP60, which will see several activist-led projects launched, and ideas translated into ground-up social projects to address specific issues in the community.
