Serious NUS Bans All Freshmen Orientation Camps Thanks To This Dunking Video!
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
https://www.facebook.com/ChannelNews...3799316457934/ SINGAPORE: Three days after the National University of Singapore (NUS) said it was investigating reports of inappropriate orientation activities, the university announced that it was suspending all student-organised freshmen activities. "The university has received recent information that there have been instances of unauthorised and unsupervised freshmen activities despite the university’s earlier instructions on this matter," it said in a statement on Friday (Jul 29). "We are deeply disappointed that some of our students have flouted the rules and behaved in an unacceptable manner in organising freshmen activities." The unauthorised activity came to light after a video circulating online showed students dunking at least two people in a pond at Sheares Hall on Jul 27. "Dunking or any other form of ragging is strictly banned under the university’s guidelines for student activities. The university takes a very serious view of this breach, and is currently conducting an investigation," NUS stated. The university also condemned the “unacceptable behaviour and activities” in freshmen activities that had surfaced in the week, saying that they “play no part in university education". “Freshmen orientation activities at NUS serve to welcome and introduce our freshmen to the university community,” said NUS. “The university expects that orientation activities are carried out in ways that are fully respectful of the dignity of all those participating.” “Our students, particularly freshmen, must feel safe and secure at all times during orientation." The suspension affects team-building activities for freshmen at NUS such as orientation camps, and freshmen activities in halls and residential colleges with immediate effect, "until further notice". Those responsible for unacceptable freshmen activities as well as unauthorised freshmen activities will be brought before the university’s Board of Discipline, NUS said. The freshmen inauguration ceremonies, welcome receptions by deans, heads of department and masters, as well as faculty and department briefings will continue as scheduled, as will the NUS Student Union's Rag and Flag activities, which raise funds for 22 Singapore charities, the university added. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...t/2997324.html Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
