I might as well talk about Kuyt, too, since he played mostly in midfield today (as opposed to Bellamy, who stuck to leading the line and was rewarded with appalling service). Yes, his work rate is fantastic and his spirit is never in doubt. Of late, though, his touch has been very heavy and his distribution has been spotty. Since he's trying to act as a link-up man, that's a problem. I think he could use a rest in the league. Give Robbie a series of games during the run-in and we'll just see how 'past it' he is. He will not let the team down.

Rafa's the King in my book and i've never had doubts over his decisions.

About the subs, oh well... Bringing Momo off made sense but putting Alonso on alongside Mascherano did not. We don't need two deep-lying midfielders against Villa. Had Rafa moved Gerrard to the middle and brought on Pennant at that point, I think we would have created a lot more chances.
Pennant on for Bellamy? I know Craig wasn't having a great impact but that was due to the lack of service. We had every reason to believe the game was there to be won so I hate seeing a striker coming off for a midfielder in that situation. If you have to take Bellamy off, stick Fowler on FFS.
Gerrard off for Fowler? Why take off one of your best attackers with less than 5 minutes left after you've just won a corner? It's not like that'll give Stevie a real rest before international duty.
I thought you said you never had doubts about Rafa and then went on to contradict his decisions?

I'm not defending Rafa here but here's a couple of things to note:

It was an away game and the onus was on Villa to attack. They didn't, so Momo who would have been in a useful spoiling role was forced to go up to support the attack. As I see it, he could go two ways in future - he could become a better passer and that would be good for us, or he would remain shite.

Rafa has never taken off a midfielder for Pennant, usually it's Bellars.

Stevie was in the center most of the game. He also had a kick to the shin before he was taken off. Tbh he had a shite game.

I do agree Kuyt's linkup play and touch hasn't been good of late. You gotta admire Fowler's movement - of course he had a great ball from Pennant - but his predatory instinct is second to none in the team.

but its not the end of the world...we got to accept it now that 3rd or 4th placing doesnt make that much difference now....what's more important is to stay injury free to prepare for psv match....i was more concerned when i saw gerrard overstretch and slightly limping after cellamy's pass....

trust me i m equally disappointed over last night's outcome but its over already...look ahead we got more important matches to come...tink next week is the international call-up? hope the players come back unscathed...

villa's cautious approach does make it difficult for us also....for a start i have always tink that our creative play is not that good, henceforth though we have kept abt 15 cleansheets(including last night's?), our problem has always been craving out openings when opposition dun play open attacking game....

if not wrong, from nou camp 1st leg, noticed that momo's been pushing further up ahead to join the attack and simply is a flop...most times, when he get the ball he's lost dun knw what to do.....i suspect rafa brought in mascherano simply to replace momo in the future....i admire momo's energy and his commitment after coming back from his eye injury but his passing is simply not good enough till date

gerrard last night was off form also

kuyt simply needs better attacking players to relief him of the link-up burdens....he's dropping down too much to help creating me tink

that villa vs liverpool match can put owls to sleep. and i think villa should be relegated for the 100% negative play. their wingers must have saw klose or raul seated in the stands becos thats where they always cross to!

pennant was awesome, always able to send in fine crosses. i am not sure why macherano and sissoko were playing at the same time though.

I have no problem with them playing at the same time...

In fact I thought thats the cue for Stevie G to go all out! But sad as usual, he ended up on the right...

Momo have a big big problem on hand.. He need to learn passing and control!!

I expect someone playing in EPL to pass much much better than he did... Its totally unacceptable!!!

Anyway, its a point gained... Maybe they are more or less focusing on CL now since the top 4 spot is more or less there for the taking..

Just read that Torres has stated publicly that he does not want to move to the EPL... But Eto had a wonderful game for Barcelona ...

when momo loses the ball to an opponent, he will by hook or by crook get back the ball at all causes! even if he kena knocked to the ground, he will get up and chase for the ball, most of the time he will get pretty rough trying to win the ball back. this is something that he gotta be careful of, very prone to getting booked and sent off. well, we didn't capitalised on arsenal's lost match last nite. too bad. but well, life goes on. will be looking forward to the CL match.

mascherano played very deep, and i saw sissoko was able to move up often but he never looked good doing that. sissoko has "defending" and "ball-winning" in his blood, he is not creative and cant shoot well.

however he is a quality player and still very young, when vieira became a star, he was much older then.

Thats what I meant.. In fact better passing will result in less 'play rough cos wanna win ball back' situation...

I dont need him to pass like Stevie or Beckham but at least have the simple basics there... Anyway, his 1st touch was not there a few times last nite.. Just let the ball row under his feet...

But as times goes by, I believe and hopefully all these 'porblems' will be solved and he truly can be a top defensive midfielder...

Thats why its kinda dissapointed to see Stevie on the right.. I thought Pennant will be a better choice... But just put it as the gaffer has his reasons...

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

the aston villa game only proves 1 thing, liverpool fans should be saluted. the team plays damn well but lose the game in the 90th minute to their most hated rivals, played like gods and knocked out the most attractive team on the planet and then cant muster any meaningful attacks against a team which deserves to be relegated. what goes thru yr minds when u r put on a roller coaster week in, week out...

liverpool fans, i salute u for being able to take this kind of shit, not knowing how they r going to do in the next game. should we take comfort in the fact that arsenal lost 1-0, bolton kenna hammered 4-1 and our champions league opponents PSV got walloped 5-1 at home?

i m going to continue to support them, but that doesnt mean that it doesnt hurt. it hurts like hell.

Anyway have some news for Pool fans although not official yet....... you all remember Ian Rush? He is a regular visitor to Singapore (think he got racehorse stabled here) and understood he and some local friends are discussing with the Americans about Liverpool franchise for South East Asia.

Me tinks there's more than 1 place they selling liverpool products.
Have seen at river valley (UE square), changi village (at some club there), old jurong road opposite safti (another country club) and of course hard rod cafe.
