Because I cannot fed her by myself, so it is better to share the burden ma. Unfortunately, Hanh was arrested by police yesterday and will be deported back to VN. The police even called me and asked me who I am. How sad! Now I have to look for new tutors again.

I think that they live in Geylang 6 is very dangerous. Police recently cracked down all freelancers in Geylang area and keeps patrolling that area. I think they just walk around the streets near their house yesterday's afternoon, and a plain cloth police thought that they are freelancers so arrested them. So sad.

I also warned Huong if they got nothing to do dun walk along the street..... when police called u did u explain to them?

It has been proven that you are right! Don't wander in the Geylang streets if you are girls with short-term visas.

Well. Originally I tried to cover her up by saying that we are just friends and we met in Orchard Road. But soon I realized that she told the police a different story, and our story didn't match at all. Police also seized her cellphone with all our sms on it. The police threatened me that if I did not tell the truth then I will be in deep trouble . At the end, I had to tell police everything they wanted to know. Sigh. I don't know how to protect her.

They always like to threaten....but they cannot do anything to you la...

At the end of the day, the need evidences to charge you but i can't think of what they wanna charge you with....knowing a vn gal and sms-ing her??

I dunno southern dialect, maybe northern i can help.

Chim literally means bird or your little birdy. So when a foreigner say "an chim" (eat bird) in HN, most ppl will laugh as it has the naughty connotation of blow-job.

Shy is usually "mac co" (pronounced "mug ke-er"). If u listen carefully, the last word seems like 2-syllables but said very fast it sounds like one. How to explain... u wld have to visit HN more often to pick up the subtleties.

For northern, the pronunciation for "tr...." is usually "ch....". So "truong hoc" is pronounced "chom hop" (school). Someone by the name of "Trang" would be pronounced "chang".

At least you had a chance to meet Hanh and Huong. I did not even have a chance to meet them which was supposed to be last Friday. On Friday early morning, Huong sent me an sms to say that she was going back later in the day. Really sorry to hear from lovesporut that Hanh was arrested by police. It's just hard luck. Anyway, wonder if you ever ask them for Vietnam contacts to keep in touch in future?

Would be most grateful if anyone could help with some translation. Tried doing it word for word online but does not seem to tally.

se doi seems to mean to follow? ben canh seems side by side....I'm quite confused by it....

Yes. Hanh will be back on Monday. So yesterday I brought her to Sentosa, learned more Vietnamese, and then she showed me how to "an chim"

Yesterday she said something which is quite funny. "Anh em lam cong an hinh su (刑事) di bat (抓) toi pham (罪犯) o VN, nhung em lai sin bi cong an bat" (My brother in VN works a policeman in charge of catching criminals, but I was caught by policemen here.)

VietnamLover's translation is correct. But I want to make one more point here. If you want to translate "la" here, it can be translated into "就" in Chinese.

o ben canh anh la vui lam = 在你身邊"就"很高興

Not only Huong's. Huong or Hanh's contacts or even both will be fine. Hehe. I don't get many chances to meet Northern women unlike Southern ones which I have plenty in my contact list (both OL and WL).
