Good post. I'm gonna reserve judgment simply cos I don't know Pedersen except in the game against the Mancs.

No reason why not get a player from Blackburn. Most of our players are from smaller clubs anyway. Lius from Barca is all I can think of atm as coming from a massive club.

Another way to look at it is you have got hungry players from the smaller clubs who are eager to make the leap and win things. We shall see.

Bah must be something I read on some Pool forum stuck in my head about Kenny. OK, he just attends matches at Anfield then heheheh.

Yes, we do have former players at other clubs. Be interesting to see if Sammy Lee can take Bolton to the next level. Terry McDermot at Newcastle, nah....Steve McMahon, boooo, has Gary Mac taken a job yet?

Are they better than Drogba, Ronaldo, Essien, Henry, Rooney, etc ??? Nope.
did i hear it right, bro??? taking players, especially tested and proven players, from opposing teams is not a good idea??? then why on earth r teams mostly unwilling to sell to a club in the same league??? why is werder bremen unwilling to sell miroslav klose to bayern? it is called a double whammy effect... u strengthen yr own team and weaken yr opponent...

benni maccarthy a season back when he joined from porto, i would hesitate to put his name up. but this season, he has proven to be a revelation. filling bellamy's shoes wasnt easy, but he more than made up for it. have to concede that he is already quite old at 29 years old (if i m not wrong) but before u make any comments, u should see his speed and off the ball running. he has lost none of it. but most importantly, he is turning to be a fox-in-the-box for blackburn and he takes his limited chances very well. i m quite sure to say that champs league football would be a very big incentive for him to join. and i dont think blackburn can ask for much for him due to his age. perfect for both pool and maccarthy...

i agree that gamst pedersen will be more costly cos he is still young and showing a lot of potential. but if u r looking to sign players like drogba, essien or henry for that matter, think the liverpool entire budget would not even move their teams' management... so let's bet realistic about it. which is why for the sake of a more meaningful discussion here, we should be looking at players that liverpool can realistically sign and not a CM wishlist. oh, by the way, didnt include the manure players cos they r not fit to wear the pool jersey in the 1st place... i wouldnt know where to hide my face if pool players were to start diving to get penalties...

just my 2 cents worth. cheers. YNWA...

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

To each their own. Benni before Porto, was in Spain's LaLiga. He is not a consistent performer (i think he was much touted when he played for SA in a previous world cup).. but like many African Players (remember Diouf and Diao ??? ), underperform.

So he has a revealing season this year, Good for him. But what about all the dud seasons he has had ???

As for Pedersen, like I said, stats mean nothing. If he is that good, then his valuation will be damn high, as well as attracting a lot of interest from a lot of large clubs.

As for talking players from the clubs in England (we are talking Premiership), well, it seldom happens because of the cost involved; and the fact that there are better and more affordable prospects overseas. One might be better off pumping the money into a good youth academy and scouting program.

To compare Bremen not selling to Bayern with Blackburn not selling to Pool is illogical. While Bremen and Bayern are League contenders, you means Blackburn will be challenging for the title next year with us, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U ??? They will sell if the price is right (which means its too high)

remember in the 90s when they produced the spice boys??? if only they can have another good run like that... the likes of mcmanaman (despite what he did lah), rob jones, calamity james for all his nintendo crap!!! the ever dashing jamie redknapp and of course, another GOD!!!

joaquin is probably out of reach but i dont think daniel alves now is within reach. with his kind of performances, think his price also will skyrocket... now i finally understood why rafa tried to purchase him for 10mil pounds and yet somehow, the deal didnt go through...

hopefully they can add one more strikers into the squad too..i see Valencia valued David Villa for 50 million pounds..guess it's really crazy!! though Villa had proven records in La Liga and in the pervious World Cup..but asking for such an amt..i rather Benitez sourced for other alternatives..
u wanna know why??? cos the whole world now knows that epl clubs will enjoy a winfall in tv $ next season... so everyone now wants a bite of that cherry mah...

Talking about Forest, Derby and Leeds...guess they have become the 'fallen giants' of the english league..if my memories serve me rite..Forest won 2 back to back European Cup in the late 70s/ early 80s...this put them the same no of cups won as MU...
aye, the brian clough days in nottingham forest... when i started noticing them, i think i remembered nigel clough, stuart pearce and a certain neil webb who has a range of passes that would make alonso jealous...

Leeds United gained a lot of support from neutral fans when they did well in the late 90s to earlier parts of 2000. I rememberd one of the matches where they beaten Pool by 4 goals to 3. but now i guess they will disappear from the top flight for quite sometime
oh, that was a painful game... pool was regularly beating leeds with ease then and suddenly, viduka scored all 4 goals for leeds in the 4-3 win. damn!!!

haha... thanks very much for the info... will certainly try my best to make it if my job allows it. actually just came back fro hk yesterday, but watching liverpool is of course, an entirely different matter... but i m actually thinking of making another pilgrimage to anfield next season... probably the last one before they switch over to stanley park. well, by then, that would present another excuse for another pilgrimage... lol

cheers, all... enjoy the rest of the weekend...

maccarthy... i dont think any manager would doubt his talent and knows what he can do. when in la liga, he was injured for quite some time and couldnt get back to fitness... at porto, think he did reasonably well. but then again, portuguese teams, with the exception of the big few, the rest of the teams were pushovers. so blackburn took a gamble... and it paid off. he has shown that he has adapted to the robust style of play in england very well. with the kind of $ available, i just feel that he is one of the better prospects that rafa should be looking at. but of course, that is just my view.

pedersen? think blackburn will ask for the sky should any club approach... but yr point on spending in overseas players...hmm... i would think twice actually. there is still this matter of whether they can get used to the EPL style or not... dont think i need to give u examples of players who came with a big reputation and cant perform. even morientes, one of the most natural centre fowards in spain and used to playing robustly, also found epl too fast and the tackles too furious...

as for bremen not wanting to sell to bayern, i was trying to put my point across that getting players from the same league is actually not a bad idea... of course, provided the player in question is good...

There is a major difference between getting English players from other clubs and getting foreign players from English clubs. The first is vastly overpriced but the second still do-able.

As I have said earlier, most of our players are from smaller clubs (if not home-grown) and quite a number are from English clubs:

Crouch - Southampton
Finnan - Fulham
Zenden - Boro
Bellamy - Blackburn
Pennant - Birmingham
Kewell - Leeds
Fowler - Man City
Carson - Leeds

All English-speaking players btw.

In this day and age, every player is overpriced but also if a player wants to leave, the club can't really do anything about it. It also doesn't always happen that the highest bidder gets the player.

The only question that matters is, will Pedersen do the job for us? Other things secondary.

Terry Mac is not much younger than Heighway ... all this while in his coaching capacity, he was more than pleased to serve as Keegan's #2 at Newcastle ... then, even when Keegan left, he was happy to play 2nd fiddle to Robson & Roeder too.
Gary Mac & Steve MacMahon both dabbled in management in the lower leagues for a while without much success ... so turned to being pundits for 2nd career.
The other "former player" who has stayed in management for years is Jan Molby ... dun think he has made it big though. The other up-&-coming is Paul Ince ... but I think he feels more allegiance to Manure than to us.

You probably mixed him up with the other 2 Englishmen who joined as Galacticos but ended up with winning nothing.

The only player who went from LFC to Juve & back to LFC is Rush, but what's the relevance here??
