Contrary to belief, running is not bad for the knees. Just Google "is running bad for knees", you can find many articles that dispute the myth.

Re: Jogging Ladies

sorry long time lurker for this thread but never contributed.

i used to hate running and i could only run 5 mins before calling it quits. either knee pain or heart cannot take it etc. all kinds of pussy excuses.

but then when i start to read up i realise i was running wrong, striking with my heel first causes shocks to travel directly up to the knee joint. instead, i learned to run and land the balls of the feet first, thereby utilising the natural ‘suspension’ of the body by using the calf muscles to cushion the shocks instead of the knee. this helped me sort out the knee pain issue. not to mention, do proper stretching before and after.

for the heart rate issue… i realise i was trying to sprint a long distance run. so really just pace the run slower, either 6 mins plus pace then slowly alternately build up distance or pace. either one. then i can say i successfully completed a few marathons and half marathons. not record breaking time but definitely a personal achievement.

my humble contribution 🙏

Don’t bother about full marathon, it is torturing. Ran once and told myself that was it. Cycling is less stressful on the knees but will still experience soreness if you are not used to it. You can start slow in cycling, maybe 10km at the park connectors.

I am not sure if this recommendation help.

I am 50 so bones are not as strong. I climb stairs daily .... about 8 floors (cos I can hit 100 steps of stairs up and down) then mainly swimming.

The stroll to swimming pool is about 15 min so to and fro I clock another 30 min outdoor walk plus 45 min swim of 2 KM.

I am trying to do the same thing like you. learning how to run right.

Someone taught me to stroll without shoes so that I learn how to land on the right part of the feet.

could be an option as well but generally, i think walking will land on the heel first. running will be the front of the foot? can’t imagine walking and landing front of the foot first.
i did the wrong way by starting to run landing on the ball of the foot first. bad choice - i couldn’t walk the next 2 days. that’s an indication of how inactive were the calves prior to this.

all the best for your run bro
