Maybe doesn't apply to Taipei gals....But if in other areas, can try to chit chat w the locals. No harm trying.
The one phrase I hear the most in Taiwan is Huan Ying Guang Lin 欢迎光临.......hearing these words from those cute shop assistants is wow!!!
I can feel their sincerity and it really makes one feel good.
