I always take taxis and never had any real problems. Just make sure you don't let anyone else other than the driver into the taxis and either insist on a meter or negotiate a rate. Walking alone is fine in Makati. In Malate, it can be done, but walk fast and look straight ahead. Not sure about ManilaCourtesan. I have seen the ads but never tried. If you are new to Manila, part of the fun is getting out an exploring. As long as you use common sense, be aware of your surroundings, when in doubt err on the side of caution, it's a good experience. My recommendation is to carry only enough cash that you are willing to lose (including get home money), be open-minded, be friendly, and always be safe.

I agree with @etsys (i always do!) - I wouldn't recommend the public transportation, unless you know what you are doing or you are with a local or want to try something new.
I've taken jeepneys before but only for short distances. One thing I do is get the phone number of taxi drivers I like and if I need to travel far (i.e. Makati to QC), i'll call them up. Another thing to try is the iPhone app GrabTaxi.

First trip to makati and it was a disaster so far.
1st night: Girl 1: Cute mina looking but super shy. Throughout the fj covering her boobs quite a turn off for me. And she got some BO so I was quite turn off by the smell.
