RAFA: TORRES IS NOT FOR SALE

Rafa Benitez today gave short shrift to suggestions Fernando Torres could be allowed to leave the club.
The Anfield boss claimed there was no offer which would persuade the club to part company with its record signing and top scorer.

Benitez said: "The situation is very simple – we do not want to sell Fernando Torres.

"If a player does a good job for his team, like Fernando has for us, then it is sometimes easy for people to speculate that he might be wanted by other clubs.

"I am not aware of any offer being made by Chelsea but even if there was my answer would be the same – he is not for sale.

"We are trying to add to the spine of our team and that means keeping players like Fernando, Javier Mascherano, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher."

Earlier this morning, a club spokesman added: "The idea that Liverpool Football Club would consider selling Fernando Torres is absolute nonsense. Everyone at the club is fully focused on improving the squad ahead of the new season."

well said bro its not easy to keep a large sqd happy, i think rafa has done well in managing the players, rafa a great motivator i don t think he need to be,playing for liverpool the best club in the world is enough motivation for the players.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

They must nvr cash in on Torres,& they shld nvr even think abt it.
In his debut season,he was so quick 2 adapt 2 the EPL,and bang in 33 goals in all competition.
Hw many gd players k put his act 2gether within such a short period of time.
They shld look at buying more classy players.
Otherwise don't talk abt chasing the front pack, they could even be taken over by the pack behind them.
Perhaps the american owners shld let go their share,as they don't seem 2 me 2 be genuine supporters of tis club.
Maybe with the introduction of the DIC,the Reds shall hv the $$ muscle 2 fight it out with the top 3.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Crouch HAD came out to say he is unhappy at how Rafa is treating him and Crouch is looking to move for more regular football to retain his place in the England Squad. Starting 9 games out of 38 is hardly going to help him hold his place in the English sqaud for long.

I think this will be another barren year of transfers for us.We seem to still be shopping for cheap buys and free transfers.

well, wat can be done??? i am puzzled by those yankees, talk so much, and yet, what has been done??? buying torres is good business, but other then tat can't see them able to commit any more funds towards the club.

And since they took over, we have been going from 1 scandal to another, who knows what is going to be in the paper tomorrow? though hicks cames out, through his spokesman, that torres is not for sale.....who knows what he is saying is true.....sighz.....of course i wont like to see torres gon, he is super for us.

read in the papers, both chelskis and scams going out to get players....and yet us, still struggling to get the players we are looking for, not sure is it due to lack of funding, or some other hidden issues.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Chelsea has a brilliant scouting team. By putting out rumours that they will bid $50 million pounds for Torres, they give the impression that they are hunting for only the best players. Players that they are actually bidding for will wonder if they may really end up playing with Stars like torres. It gives an impression that they will be joining a team that will acheive trophies. Chelsea doesn't even need to submit a formal bid to us to create this impression and it will not cost that a single penny to create 'rumours'.

Rafa, on the other hand, talks abt needing to spend more money to catch the Big 2. There are even reports that he is dismissing our title hopes for next season unless we spend big. If you are a player talking to liverpool now, your impression will be that you are going to join a team that is just an also-run. A team that is far less likely to win trophies than Chelsea. If given a choice between Chelsea and Liverpool, with the type of news coming out now, who will you join?

The 2nd point of Rafa coming out to say we need to spend big to catch up is that CLUBS will ask for more money from us! You say you want to spend big what, so I sell you at a more expensive price lor! Not a smart thing to say in business. Will any of you go tell a property agent that you will want to buy an expensive house? If you do so, your agent will just tell the seller to ask for more cash above valuation right? Not very smart.

Rafa doesn't seem to know how to play the players he buys. Torres was an exception. I think a lot of us rate Crouch as our 2nd best striker (after Torres), yet he didn't start the world championship final, our 2nd Champions League final and only started 9 league games last season. Whenever Crouch plays, he looks pretty sharp, especially his long range shots. Kuyt on the other hand...

I do hope we will try to buy Joaquim, Bentley, Alves but I know we will settle for some unknown player who plays for some unknown teams. Just gotten the new jersey for next season, it looks great!

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

REDS SET TO BE NUMBER ONE IN EUROPE

Liverpool are on course to be Europe's number one ranked team according to UEFA for the first time since 1985.
The basis for the UEFA rankings is the performance of teams in the European Cups during a five-year period.

While the Reds currently stand third behind AC Milan and Chelsea, the projected figures for 2009 put Merseyside's finest on top.

That's because over the last four years – winning the Champions League in 2005, losing in the final in 2007 and reaching the semis last term – the Reds have accrued more points than any other team (Liverpool 104.288; AC Milan 103.006; Chelsea 102.284).

Therefore, a decent European campaign in 2008-09 would see Rafa Benitez's side overtake AC Milan and Chelsea to take top spot.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's recent form in the Champions League also means they will go into the qualifiers for next season's competition as number one seeds when the draw is made in July.

Both the Lakers and Celtics are on course for the finals, although they have to overcome the established teams in the league (Spurs and Pistons).

I think we are very much like the Lakers (Kobe = Stevie). Rafa is right to say we are very close to challenging for the title if we can add one or two more quality players to the squad, to address our weaknesses. In the same way as the Lakers, we can then challenge the top 2 in the BPL.

So bros, hang in there, all is not lost. The transfer window has not yet opened.

No choice when the board tell you that you have to sell to raise funds...

If only the board can just splash one more time to add in 1 or 2 more quality player...

Yes bro, in fact i love lakers too....and was happy to see them playing so well after so many issues.

back to Liverpool, well, somehow they can't seem to play to their standard against the top 3 teams, if they can win their home games against the top 3 teams, we will be top of the table. not sure wats the reason, especially the games against the scums, the team just seem unable to play up to their standard.

certainly hope we can get the right players to replace those who are leaving.

HEYSEL REMEMBERED 23 YEARS ON

On the 23rd anniversary of the Heysel Stadium tragedy, Liverpool Football Club remembers the 39 football supporters who went to watch a European Cup final and sadly never returned.
On 29 May, 1985, the deaths of 32 Italians, four Belgians, two Frenchmen and one man from Northern Ireland totally overshadowed our European Cup final defeat to Juventus.

What should have been a joyous occasion turned into a nightmare.

No one will ever forget the horror that unfolded before our eyes that night and 23 years on let's all pause for a moment to pay our respects to those unfortunate victims...

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

STEVIE: MY EURO HEARTACHE

Steven Gerrard has spoken of his heartache that he won't be joining Europe's elite players in Austria and Switzerland this summer.
The midfielder capped a man-of-the-match display with a well-worked goal in a 2-0 friendly win over USA on Wednesday night, but England's failure to qualify means he won't be able to take such form into Euro 2008.

Gerrard said: "Not going to the Euro finals has been hitting home for a long time, ever since we failed to qualify.

"We are going to have to suffer that disappointment throughout the summer. We all wanted to be part of the finals and challenging to win the tournament.

"But we've got to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers. We have to put the disappointment we are feeling about this summer to the back of our minds."

One piece of business that will be sorted over the coming months is the permanent home for the England captain's armband.

Gerrard is a candidate alongside the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Gareth Barry and last night's stand-in John Terry, who bounced back from the anguish of missing a penalty in a Champions League final with a headed goal against the USA.

For Gerrard, the Chelsea man's show of resilience was not a surprise.

"I am so pleased for John Terry. He is a top guy off the pitch and also a great player on it. He is a fantastic footballer," said the Liverpool captain.

"Unfortunately for him, he suffered a big low in his career with what happened in Moscow last week.

"But we always knew he was going to bounce back. That is the type of fantastic character that he is.

"He showed once again that he is a fantastic leader. He has done it so many times."

Meanwhile, Gerrard believes England are starting to make progress under Fabio Capello but is aware there is still much work to be done before they are at the level they want to be.

He added: "This was another step in the right direction. We are pleased with the win and we have a clean sheet. We are getting a bit more used to the new set-up.

"We are certainly on the right path but there is still a long way to go to get to the level we want to perform at."

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

More Liverpool FC Legends back ShareLiverpoolFC as it launches in Ireland
Liverpool FC and Republic of Ireland internationals Ronnie Whelan and Jason McAteer have announced their support at the official launch of ShareLiverpoolFC in Ireland.

At a press conference at the CityWest Hotel in Dublin at 12.00 noon on Friday 30 May, Ronnie and Jason joined John Aldridge in a bid to boost awareness of the project in Ireland, already one of the biggest supporters of ShareLiverpoolFC outside of England.

Ronnie Whelan said: "I'm happy to join other former players like John Aldridge, Jason McAteer and John Barnes in expressing my full support for the ShareLiverpoolFC project.

"No one who's played for Liverpool could ever forget the dedication and passion of the fans. If any football club should be owned by its fans, surely it's Liverpool FC? The fans are the heart and soul of this great Club. We've all seen what's happened recently; it's wrong for 'ownership' of such an historic football club to be traded like a commodity.

"I wasn't surprised to hear that Ireland was in the top three nations for numbers of visits to the ShareLiverpoolFC website. We all know how passionate many Irish fans are in their support for Liverpool. You've only got to visit Anfield on a match day to realise how the long association between the City and the Republic has flourished into a dedicated following for LFC.

"I'm sure that when the 'fan-members' take over the Club they love, many thousands of them will be Irish - and that is just as it should be."

The ShareLiverpoolFC Ireland effort is spearheaded by Bernard O'Byrne, former CEO of the Football Association of Ireland, and Group Chief Executive of The Mansfield Group. Bernard will represent Ireland on the Steering Group of ShareLiverpoolFC.

More information is available at our revamped website at ShareLiverpoolFC.com. We'll continue to improve the site and add new features over the coming weeks, so let us know what you think.

Best wishes
