Actually Hunan is not that poor. There are regions in China that are even poorer. However Hunan has a large number of pretty girls and it's relatively easy for them to "excel" in the highly competitive sex market in China.

For the same reason a disproportionally high percentage of WLs are from Sichuan and Dongbei.
