My Acharn thought me this. Actually because, when i first took up Thai Buddhism many years ago, i too was susceptible to such myths. One such myth was "cant eat starfruit" i actually stopped eating starfruit for a whole year, till i saw my Acharn eat starfruit i almost fainted! Then he explained to me, many people out of ignorance (like myself) fall prey to unscrupulous people trying to make wearing a Thai amulet like a mystery or difficult and riddled with many pantangs so they can jack the prices of amulets up!

Imagine a 20 year Wat Rakhang amulet they tried to sell me for like Sgd350 ? Wow! With that money i can invite a box of Genuine Wat Rakhang similar period amulets home!

wahaha think that time go up wrk they have 100 baht mould and 300baht mould...but i wonder why they still have so much after such a long period...

starfruit is quite puzzling for me is edible but certian sakyant masters still ban that....(anyway they don taste fantastic...if its durian no one should bother about quiting it!)

to disspell the myth, my Acharn further explained to me, those ppl
"create" this myth because, the monk's precepts of 128 bans eating whole fruit
the size of a palm of your hand, but the disciple's can cut the fruit to smaller than the
size of your palm. Problem solved!

There are so many acharns out there who will give you different opinions on different issues, depending on who they learn from, where they learn from and how they have interpreted the issues.

There is no one in this world who can claim he knows its all, for he is no Buddha.

As the saying goes, a blind leading a blind.

The right way it to follow one's heart, there is no right or wrong. If follow in total strictness, we should not be even eating, just drink water. Plants are living things too.

As long as we do not harm another we should be totally fine.

There are various explanations which one can google for answers (be prepared for various versions of the answers!) on why beef, starfruit etc. cannot be eaten.

Just follow your heart, if you think you do not wish to eat beef, chicken or any living thing, by all means do it.

Alcohol are not supposed to be consumed and sex with partners other than your spouse are not allowed but I am positive there are huge percentage of Buddhists who would not be able to do it. I for one, admit I would not be able to.

wad i knew is the superstitious belief, heresay: last time starfruit grew in graveyard(perhaps in thai only) now no more liao ma all in plantation...so now can eat(but still there are some sects in thai forbid eating that)

But beef still a no no to me becos of Kuan Yin but then again another belief.

So can anyone offer explanation why KP is not suitable for me? i.e. after wearing luck goes down and down?

You can invite the whole group of monks from the Wat for lunch, it will cost cost around 3000 bahts or less. I mean with delicious dishes like fish, prawn, veg & etc. Cheers.
