LOS defines as "Land of Smile", which is the beautiful nickname of Thailand, as once you touch down the land... You will experiences the sweetest smile in the world...

Some people define LOS as "Land of Sex"... The word tells the background story.

If you think you are young, attractive and adorable, perhaps LOS puying will buy you drinks, eat, and even hotel (their own house). Then, $500 is more than enough.

C'mon, everyone goes to BKK to shop because of the cheap prices for these imitation goods, right?

These customs officers simply refused to return the stuff to us even when we told them we do not want to enter Malaysia anymore and will return back to Thailand.

Has anyone else had this kind of experience? Are they allow to confiscate our stuff?

What kind of goods? I know they have been known to seize contraband like cigarettes and liquor but this is the 1st time I am hearing that they seize shopping goods. Every weekend thousands of Malaysians crossover to Hatyai to buy those cheap imitation stuff and bring them back to Malaysia. Why dun they seize those goods too? Were your goods prohibited items?

Based on my knowledge they can do so but they must provide you with a document stating the items seized by them to be given to you as proof of the seizure but I doubt this was done right?

Sometimes you need to give some pocket money at the customs. I think they want to smoothe the bruise in their heart for the football match. Some more you carry Singapore passport.

We were not carrying any prohibited items. Neither do we have any cigarettes or liquor. Our goods were mostly "branded" stuff like clothes, bags, accessories and shoes.

This was at the Malaysia side, not the Thailand side. I don't think it was because of the football match. Thailand beat them in the semi-final, not us.

Under what law or regulation? Even our Singapore customs don't confiscate our imitation stuff and we have stricter laws than them.

I don't know under what law bro coz I'm not a lawyer but I know that they can seize fake/imitation goods & based on what I heard they will/should issue you a note informing you of the seizure!

Are you sure? According to what I know they can only take action if and when a complaint is lodged by the copyright owners. An example is the pasar malams often found at the neighbourhood..... 99% of the stalls are hawking imitation stuff yet no action is taken against them. The only time raids are conducted to seize the imitation goods was when the copyright owners make a report after test buys by their agents to confirm the stuff are fake.

Unlike Europe where there is legislation to empower the customs to seize any counterfeit item carried by you...... Singapore / Malaysia and our ASEAN countries have not reach this stage of enforcement yet.

The way I see this incident that happened to bro Matterhorn is that the customs officers were corrupted and confiscated those goods for their own consumption.
