Serious Minority Elected President rule change and the sheer uselessness of the PCMR
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
For those that are not familiar, the PCMR is the Presidential Council for Minority Rights. From the govt website: Presidential Council for Minority Rights The Presidential Council for Minority Rights has its origins in 1970 when it was established as the Presidential Council under the Constitution. In 1973, the Council was renamed to its present name. The Council examines all legislation to ensure that they are not disadvantageous to any racial or religious community as compared to other such communities. But wait a minute! The changes to the elected presidency, reserving the presidency for certain ethnic groups is clearly disadvantageous to many racial groups that are not permitted to have a candidate run for the Presidency. By permitting only malays to run in the upcoming election, Chinese, Indians and eurasians are clearly disadvantaged vis a vis malays. In fact, under this new law, eurasians are not even recognized as a racial group, and in theory, there might never be another eurasian President ever. What about people who are of mixed races, are they then not a group in themselves that have no representation under this new law? Where is the PCMR in all of this? This is a law that is right up their alley, and should be a clear cut denial by them for this law to not to pass. Yet, we have a deafening silence from them. How can a governmental body tasked with preventing the passing of rascist laws, keep silent and by its silence, acquiesce to it? This makes a mockery of the whole council. Why not simply disband the council and save the taxpayer a lot of money, if it will not do its job? The council's debates are shrouded in secrecy and they do not disclose the minutes or agendas of their meetings. yet more lack of transparency on the part of the PAP. This council is populated with ex politicians, and compliant local religious leaders, who apparently vote more with their obedience to the PAP then with their obedience to their gods. Anyone of these council member with a clear conscience must reveal to the citizens of singapore whether a debate was held in their council over the legitimacy of this new piece of legislature for the elected presidency. And if it was, why was it not found to have been a racist piece of law favouring just one minority group at a time. What was the outcome, and what are the minutes from this debate. There appears to be some members of conscience in this group, but yet a deafening silence. I have really lost respect now for the shit usless Archbishop William Goh, Sik Kwang Sheng, and Mufti Shaikh Syed Isa bin Mohamed Semait. They should come out and speak against it. We don't expect the other PAP porlumpars in the council to do so. Members of the Council are appointed by the President on the advice of the Cabinet. Currently, the Council has 16 Members comprising the Chairman, six permanent Members and nine other Members, as follows: Chairman: The Hon the Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon Permanent Members: Tuan Haji Othman bin Wok Mr Goh Chok Tong, Emeritus Senior Minister Mr S Dhanabalan Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law Other Members: Mr Lucien Wong, Attorney-General Mr J Y Pillay His Grace Archbishop William Goh Seng Chye Mr Othman Haron Eusofe Mr Timothy James de Souza Mr Abdullah Tarmugi Prof Chan Heng Chee Mr Barry Desker Mr Philip Jeyaretnam Mr Surjit Singh s/o Wazir Singh Shaikh Syed Isa bin Mohamed Semait Venerable Sik Kwang Sheng Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
